The Han River passes through Seoul by geographically cutting the Korean capital into two parts: north and south. On the banks of the Han River in Seoul, which has witnessed the history of the town for a couple of thousand years, several beautiful parks and green areas have sprung up, crossed by a long cycle path running from west to east. And a nice bike ride is definitely the best way to appreciate and enjoy the area, there are several locations where two-wheeled vehicles are rented for a reasonable fee. Current prices (Summer 2019) are 3,000 won for the first hour and 500 won every 15 minutes more, they also rent tandems and it costs double.

The parks along the Han River in Seoul are filled by the inhabitants of the city, especially during the summer, looking for some fresh air and greenery to spend pleasant days outdoors and release the stress of the past week accumulated within the walls of the office or shop.

During the warm season, you can do different water sports or relax lying on the grass reading a book or having a picnic, walking along the Seoul river banks, pedaling and enjoying a sunny day, or renting a swan-shaped pedal boat and go around the river.

But it is in spring that the parks reach the best of their charm, during the cherry blossom season the trees are covered with wonderful flowers with serene white petals full of grace that you can admire along the banks of the Han River in Seoul and in other adjacent areas.

You can find, in the larger and more frequented parks, some restaurants, stalls and convenience stores that serve and sell a bit of everything, from street food to drinks and mats to sit or lie on the grass. They also rent tents, which during the summer make the green areas look like real campsites, are often proposed as a set that you can carry in the area that best suits you in the park with a four-wheeled trolley with everything you need: tent from the quick assembly, a small table and folding chairs and sometimes even an electronic fan! The only rule is to close the camp before dusk and keep the temporary accommodation open on the various sides to avoid misunderstanding too romantic situations, they can fine you if you don’t do it…

In some areas gymnastic facilities have been set up, accessible for free and widely used, where locals can keep fit and be outdoors just right next to the Han River in Seoul.

In Seoul, the delivery service of all kinds of food satisfies the appetite of the inhabitants in all areas of the city, it certainly could not miss the possibility of having pizza, fried chicken, or whatever food you want to be delivered to you in the park! Just use one of the various applications downloaded on your phone or call the restaurant directly (if you can speak Korean) and in a few minutes, you will have a snack served along the Han River in Seoul that you can eat on the lawn in front of the Seoul skyline and its various bridges that are illuminated during the evening.

One of the most famous and popular places along the Han River in Seoul is the Yeouido Hangang Park, a beautiful and large area equipped with everything you need to stay outdoors, very easy to reach with public transport and also hosting various cultural events. There is also an information center. From here start some themed cruises, you can take a normal ride or have lunch or dinner on the boat.

Another park that I recommend is the Ttukseom Hangang Park, from here you can have a nice view of the Lotte Tower skyscraper across the Han River in Seoul and in summer there is an outdoor pool where you can have a refreshing swim. This place is also well equipped and easy to reach.

I recommend the parks along the Han River in Seoul if you have more days to spend in Seoul, perhaps to have lunch or dinner when the weather is nice or a walk or bike ride to be in the green and get away from the city, you can visit them if you are here during the cherry blossom season in spring, especially at Yeouido Hangang Park and around.

The parks of the Han River in Seoul are easily accessible by subway, the best way to get around the South Korean capital and efficiently serves virtually all areas of this huge city.

For the Yeouido Hangang Park get off at Yeouinaru Station, line 5.

For Ttukseom Hangang Park get off at Ttukseom Resort Station, line 7. Exit 2 or 3.
